The realistic number: 10–23%
Independent studies and manufacturer data put smart-thermostat cooling savings in the range of 10% to 23%. Where you land depends on how wasteful your current habits are. A home that leaves the AC running at 20°C all day while everyone's out will save at the top of that range. A already-careful household will save less — but almost everyone saves something, because the thermostat optimises around the clock in ways a person never will.

Why this matters more on DEWA's tariff
DEWA uses a progressive slab tariff — the more you use in a month, the more each extra unit costs, up to 38 fils/kWh in the top band, plus fuel surcharge and VAT. Heavy summer cooling pushes your usage into that most expensive band. Note: if your building runs on district cooling (Empower, Emicool, Tabreed), a smart thermostat lowers the consumption portion of your bill, but not the fixed capacity charge. It still helps — just on one half of the bill.
How fast does it pay for itself?
For most villas and larger apartments in Dubai, the device plus professional installation typically pays back within one to two cooling seasons through lower bills — and then keeps saving every year after. For a multi-zone villa using room sensors, payback is usually faster because the waste being eliminated is bigger.
